Behind the Name
The Henna and Kohl Bellydance Company evokes the natural beauty that is inherent in every woman. The Henna flower is used traditionally in Middle Eastern and South Asian cultures to add a vibrant red sheen to women's hair or to create intricate body art. Kohl is a naturally occurring black mineral that is traditionally applied on the eyelids to bring focus to the hidden depth beneath a woman's lashes. Together, Henna and Kohl represent the joyful spirit and sultry mystery of bellydance.
Statement of Purpose
The purpose of the Henna and Kohl Bellydance Company is to cultivate professional and semi-professional bellydancers through the public performance of cabaret-style bellydance. Through public performances, the general public will gain a greater appreciation and understanding of bellydance and Middle Eastern culture.
